Delhi CM Oath Ceremony: Rekha Gupta to Be Sworn in as the City’s Fourth Woman Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan

Rekha Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), will be sworn in as Delhi's new Chief Minister, bringing an end to 11 days of speculation following the BJP’s return to power after more than 27 years. This victory marks the end of the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP’s 10-year rule in the capital. Gupta’s ascent to the top post is a historic moment for both her and her party as they reclaim power in Delhi after almost three decades. As Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister, Gupta will continue a rare tradition of female leadership in the city, with previous women CM’s hailing from the BJP, Congress, and AAP. She will succeed Atishi as the city’s top leader.

The Oath Ceremony

The grand oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan is expected to draw a crowd of around 50,000, including high-profile dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues, and Chief Ministers from various NDA-ruled states. In addition, BJP leaders and party workers who participated in the Delhi election campaign will also be in attendance.

To ensure smooth and secure proceedings, over 25,000 police personnel and more than 15 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed across the national capital. A senior police official confirmed the extensive security arrangements in place for the event.

The ceremony will be preceded by a musical performance featuring the renowned Kailasa singer Kailash Kher, as part of the festive atmosphere that is expected to mark the occasion.

Rekha Gupta: A Strong Political Career

Though new to the Delhi Assembly, Gupta brings decades of political experience to the table. She comes from a strong RSS background and entered politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. A graduate in law from Delhi University, Gupta is a former president of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU), where she became well-known for her efforts to raise student issues.

Her political journey also includes serving as a councillor for North Pitampura in 2007, where she focused on improving local infrastructure, such as libraries and parks. Gupta’s work has largely been centered on women’s issues, and she currently holds the position of national vice president for the BJP Mahila Morcha, in addition to being a member of the party’s national executive.

Education and Personal Life

Gupta holds a law degree (LLB) and has always been deeply involved in grassroots-level politics and social work. She also founded the NGO AAS, which focuses on social welfare initiatives.

On a personal front, Gupta is married to Manish Gupta, a businessman. The couple has two children: a daughter who resides in Australia and a son studying in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Despite her busy political life, Gupta has managed to maintain a balanced family life.

At the BJP legislature party meeting on Wednesday, Rekha Gupta was selected as the Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly, solidifying her position as the new Chief Minister.

Conclusion

Rekha Gupta’s swearing-in will undoubtedly mark a significant chapter in Delhi’s political history, bringing a fresh leadership dynamic to the capital while continuing the tradition of women leaders in the city.
