Saudi Arabia Faces Intense Weather Conditions with Heavy Rainfall and Flood Risks

Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing severe weather, with heavy rainfall leading to flood-like conditions in multiple regions. The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert, warning that these extreme conditions will persist until Thursday, February 20. During this period, strong winds, hailstorms, and heavy downpours are expected across various parts of the country.

Even the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, which hold deep significance for Muslims worldwide, are likely to be affected by turbulent weather. Authorities anticipate strong winds, hail, and potential flooding in these areas.

Affected Regions

According to a Gulf News report, several regions will experience significant rainfall over the next three days. These include:

  • Major cities: Riyadh, Hail, Al Qassim, Eastern Province, Northern Borders, Makkah, and Madinah.
  • Additional areas: Taif, Maysan, Adham, Al Ardiyat, Al Muwayh, Khurma, Ranyah, Turubah, Bahrah, Al Jumum, Khulais, and Al Kamil.

Moreover, some regions may even witness snowfall, potentially leading to a sharp drop in temperatures. Authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather advisories.

High-Wind Alert and Safety Measures

Stormy conditions and strong winds are expected in parts of Saudi Arabia, prompting warnings from the NCM. Residents in Jeddah, Shuaiba, and Al Lith should prepare for wind speeds reaching 40-49 km/h, which could cause reduced visibility and rough sea conditions, potentially disrupting maritime activities.

Authorities have advised citizens to:

  • Stay indoors during peak storm hours.
  • Follow official weather updates and safety instructions.
  • Avoid flood-prone areas, particularly in low-lying regions.
  • Remain cautious and rely on trusted sources for information.

The extreme weather has already begun impacting daily life in Saudi Arabia, with authorities closely monitoring the situation.

A Changing Climate in Saudi Arabia

Typically known for its arid climate and minimal rainfall, Saudi Arabia has witnessed an increase in heavy downpours and flooding in recent years. Experts attribute these unusual weather patterns to climate change, which has led to unpredictable conditions across the region.

Meanwhile, some people link this climatic transformation to a prophecy by Prophet Muhammad, which foretells Saudi Arabia becoming greener before the end of times. Regardless of interpretations, the shift in weather patterns highlights the need for preparedness and adaptation to these changing environmental conditions.
