The Sheikh Hasina-led interim government in Bangladesh headed by Mohammad Yunus has begun making waves in the defense sector, as it embarks on some notable moves. In this context, a notable development was the visit of a high-ranking Bangladeshi military delegation headed by Lieutenant General S.S Kamarul Hassan, the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division, to Pakistan, where it held talks with Pakistan Air Force Chief Zaheer Ahmad Babar Siddhu. Sources indicate that the aim of the visit is in line with ‘Bangladesh’s broader efforts to enhance its defense capabilities, including the possibility of acquiring fighter jets from Pakistan.’ Such movement signals deeper interests on the part of the Yunus leadership in the military hardware of Pakistan especially the Pakistan manufactured JF-17 Thunder fighter jets co-designed by China and manufactured in Pakistan’s Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra. The other Bangladeshis, chiefly the Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Bangladesh, while on a visit to Pakistan also expressed their interest in the Pakistan manufactured JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. These fighter jets are being manufactured in Pakistan after being designed in China.
In a bid to deepen the existing military relations between the countries, the parties examined potential opportunities لتنميه العلاقات. According to Pakistan army media wing, ISPR senior military representatives from Bangladesh and Pakistan met at the Air Force headquarters in Islamabad. During the discussions, each side took the time to identify potential avenues for improving military relations of their respective air forces. Marshal of the Pakistan Air Force reiterated the country’s devotion to expanding into Saharia’s defence business.
Stemming from the myriad of media coverage, Lt Gen S S Kamarul Hassan – who led the Bangladeshi delegation - lauded Pakistan Air Force for their cutting edges technologies and infrastructure which is developed locally. He was particularly interested in the JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and other modern military weapons. Earlier on Tuesday, Lieutenant General Hassan met General Syed Asim Munir the Pakistan Army Chief to further the discussions on the collaboration.
